National Public Speaking Competition

WHAT IS THE NATIONAL PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION?

EIY National Public Speaking Competition 2023 is an event that brings together individuals from across a country to showcase their public speaking skills and compete against each other in delivering speeches on a given topic or theme.


Participants are usually required to prepare and deliver a well-crafted and engaging speech within a certain time limit, and are judged on various aspects such as content, delivery, organization, and overall impact.

WHY SHOULD YOU PARTICIPATE IN THE CONTEST?

  • Challenge the speakers to think critically, coherently, and creatively through impromptu speeches.

  • Empower contestants with self-confidence & leadership skills.

  • Improve your Public  Speaking skills faster since you need to practice your speeches delivery many times.

  • Offer networking opportunities for all contestants.

  • Understand where your Public Speaking level is at.

  • Participate in EIY Public Speaking training & achieve deserved prizes!

CONTESTANT ELIGIBILITY

  • Students aging from 8 years old.

  • Capable of using English.

  • Passionate about Public Speaking.

  • Contestants must not plagiarize speeches from print media or selected website(s). Their speeches should be substantially original. Any quoted material should be stated in the speech or given prior notice to the organizers.

IMPORTANT GUIDELINE

In the spirit of the National Public Speaking Competition, contestants are to refrain from using potentially offensive language in their speeches. The themes for their speeches should avoid sensitive issues such as (but not limited to):

  • Religious issues

  • Political issues

  • Racial issues

  • Gender and sexual innuendos

  • Offensive language


This aside, as an open-theme public speaking competition,  contestants are allowed to choose any topic as part of their national prepared speech and are not limited to any particular speech genre (i.e. they are allowed to present a persuasive speech, an inspirational speech, or an informative speech).

  • Speech Development & its value (30%)

  • Speech Effectiveness (20%)

  • Body Language (15%)

  • Vocal Variety (15%)

  • Appropriateness (5%)

  • Language usage (5%)

  • Digital literacy (10%)
